The VCS Parenting Apart Program
This program is useful for all separating parents, whether they have been married or not. Separation and divorce are stressful experiences for all involved, especially for children. This 16 hour educational program focuses on the needs of children during such times.
The VCS Parenting Apart Program is two parts:
A four-hour NY State certified introductory seminar followed by 12 individual sessions.
Topics include:
The class runs six times per year. Please call to register.
This program is useful for all separating parents, whether they have been married or not. Separation and divorce are stressful experiences for all involved, especially for children. This 16 hour educational program focuses on the needs of children during such times.
The VCS Parenting Apart Program is two parts:

Topics include:
- The separation/divorce process
- What parents can do to help their children adjust
- How children react
- Tools for parenting apart
- Tips on common parent pitfalls
- Skills for listening to children

Relatives as Parents Program

The Relatives as Parents Program is an open support group for grandparents raising their grandchildren or any other person raising the child of a relative. The group is a place to share the challenges and experiences amongst your peers. The group is free to attend and runs on the third Friday of each month from 12:00-1:30pm at VCS. For more information contact the staff member listed below.
Note: You may also be interested in attending the Support group for grandparents or relatives raising children, listed above, which runs on a different day and usually has speakers and discussion time.

Parent/Child Relationship Counseling
Counseling is available for parents and their children to work on their relationship. Sessions are 50 minutes long and held once a week with a VCS counselor. All counseling sessions are confidential. Daytime and evening sessions are available. Fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income. For questions, or to book an intake with one of our social workers on staff, please contact the staff member listed below.
